When the student brings the assignment back to class completed,
they will get a stripe on their belt!

Please discuss and review the word of the month at home.

The word of the month for June is INTEGRITY

INTEGRITY means: "I mean what I say and I say what I mean!"

“In the end you should always do the right thing even if it's hard.” ― Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song

Many people mistakenly equate integrity with simple being honest.  But integrity is so much more than that.  Integrity is about being true to oneself, one's values and principles, one's word, and one's standards and beliefs.  It's raw honesty in the deepest regard to oneself and others.

The word of the month for May is TRUSTWORTHINESS

"Trustworthiness" means Worthy of Trust by being Reliable, Accountable & Dependable

"Intentions are not destinations.  What people promise to do and what they end up doing may be two different things.  The best predictors of character are not the words of the moment, but the actions of the past"-Mario Cortes

Reliability, Accountability, Dependability (RAD).  Trustworthiness is one of the greatest challenges faced in our everyday lives.  It relies upon our abilities to make choices that will leave a confident impression of ourselves.  We know from a very early age by experience that not everyone is capable of securing our trust.  Almost every "role model" in today's society have had issues with cheating, lying, breaking laws & promises.    Even the media is not a reliable source of information.  Perhaps the bigger issue is how WE can achieve trustworthiness from others?   We can start by recognizing the ways we can demonstrate our own reliability by taking ownership and being accountable for our actions with a positive, realistic outlook by our words and actions and striving to always be counted to try to do the right thing.

The word of the month for April is LEGACY

"Legacy" means a Gift, Lesson or Reputation handed down from one person or group to another

"The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example" -Benjamin Disraeli

Leaving a legacy is what people remember about us - our character, skills, achievements and lessons.  What type of legacy do you choose to leave?  Hopefully, by our actions, we will leave a very positive impression.  It is important to be aware of the type of impact we are placing in the memories of those we come into contact with every day.  Each one of us can remember at least one person besides our parents & caregivers that have changed our thinking, shown a different perspective, made us feel good about who we are or brought out the best in us perhaps even altered the course of our lives in a profound way.  Choose to treat others in the same format of those that have positively influenced your life and you will secure a legacy to be proud of for yourself and those that inherit your life's gifts.

The word of the month for March is COURAGE

"Courage" means the willingness to face fears & challenges with determination

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear" -Ambrose Redmoon

Courage is a vital aspect of moving towards our goals and a necessary element in having new experiences.  Courage is a bravery that allows each of us to look beyond what causes us to pause and become fearful before taking the next steps towards what we wish to achieve.  It is important to understand that everyone feels afraid or anxious of the unknown or an uncertain situation.  Courage comes from the willingness to be open to new possibilities & opportunities beyond the unknown and allows us to welcome challenges as they come along.

The word of the month for February is LOYALTY

"Loyalty" means Faithful & Committed to a Person, Place, Group or Cause

"Unless you can find some sort of loyalty, you cannot find unity and peace in your active living"-Josiah Royce

Loyalty is very important to maintaining a standard of committment to people or life's circumstances.  It is a behavior that requires a person to be true, faithful & supportive within all types of relationships.  Children learn loyalty from their family and early friendships and extends to developing good personal relationships with peers and coworkers later in life.  Loyalty should not compromise a persons ability to determine 'right' or 'wrong' situations nor should it be used to compromise our character or belief system.  Used in the right way, loyalty develops trust and respect.

The word of the month for January is HEALTH

"Heath" means Well being in Body, Mind & Spirit

"The one who thinks about his health only after it is compromised is likely the one who will have to think about his health a great deal"-Dr Robyn Silverman

It is the beginning of a new year which usually means that we are more apt to review the past year and prepare for the current year to come.  With this, we usually analyze how we feel about ourselves and how we can change all aspects of ourselves for the better.  Our state of wellbeing, or health, is something we often take for granted unless we find there is something wrong with it.  Our physical, mental & spiritual health is something that we all need to become proactive advocates.  There are a number of small, simple, positive changes we all can make to live our lives in the most optimal way possible.  When we feel good about ourselves, we will automatically be more capable of facing obstacles & coping with challenges.  Finding ways to manage stress, becoming more active, choosing the right 'body fuel' & getting adequate rest are all fantastic ways to begin a brand new year.  Practicing good habits every day will set you on the right path for a successful year!
